Holiday Horns - Season’s greetings from the UI Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble

Tuba, sousaphone, and euphonium players gave their annual present to the University of Iowa community Dec. 10—a noontime concert of holiday favorites on the steps of the historic Old Capitol.

Plenty of sun, temps just above freezing, and holiday cheer drew a crowd, many bearing gifts to be distributed by Toys for Tots. John Manning, associate professor of music, donned his Santa suit to conduct the ensemble.

Manning and colleagues this year welcomed players from throughout the community in what they dubbed their “fill the steps” campaign. They also presented a new arrangement of Silent Night as a tribute to Harvey Phillips, an Indiana University professor who founded a similar holiday show in honor of his teacher, Iowan Bill Bell.

Enjoy the show, and season's greetings from the whole University of Iowa family.
