A Fruitful Season - Hawkeyes finish 11–2 with Orange Bowl victory

The temperature in Miami may have dipped to 49 degrees at kickoff of the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 5—making it the coldest Orange Bowl on record—but the estimated 30,000 Hawkeye fans inside Land Shark Stadium got to bask in the warm glow of victory as Iowa defeated Georgia Tech 24–14.

The win marked the UI football program’s first triumph in a Bowl Championship Series event and helped the Hawkeyes secure the No. 7 slot in the final Associated Press and USA Today Top 25 polls of the 2009 college football season. Iowa, which finished

the season with an 11–2 record, has ranked among the nation’s top 10 teams four times in the last eight years.

The Hawkeyes will open the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Eastern Illinois at historic Kinnick Stadium. The home slate also includes contests against Iowa State, Ball State, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.
